Mr. Brian Renkas earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and a Master of Arts in Servant Leadership from Viterbo University in La Crosse. He has also completed music-related graduate classes at Vandercook College of Music, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and The University of Hawaii-Manoa. Mr. Renkas’ major focus has been French horn, and he has had many additional experiences as a successful vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in styles ranging from classical to jazz to rock. He plays keyboards weekly with the contemporary praise band at First Lutheran Church in Onalaska.


Mr. Renkas has been teaching band and music courses at Logan High School in La Crosse since 2001. In addition to his work with the bands throughout the school district, he teaches Music Theory, Soundscapes (a music-tech related course), and taught adaptive music courses for many years. He also conducts the pit orchestra for the district musicals and directs Logan’s Grateful Red Pep Band. Prior to moving to La Crosse, he taught 5-8 grade band at Richmond Grade School and Nippersink Middle School in Richmond, Illinois.


This is Mr. Renkas’ first time taking part in a project such as this. He is very excited to be a part of this fantastic group, and honored to be a part of the staff. In his free time, he and his wife spend time trading driving duties for his 3 daughters and an exchange student, to all of their activities. He also loves board games, and learning new instruments, like the banjo, theremin and musical saw.
